This morning I received the sad news that professor emeritus Lars Hartman passed away yesterday. His many scholarly contributions, especially on early Christian baptism and the Gospel of Mark, are well known. He was also a kind and generous mentor to many, myself included. Despite his declining health in recent years, he found joy in attending the Uppsala New Testament research seminar on occasion, as well as Daniel Gustafsson’s dissertation defence in September. As recently as last week, he was working on a Festschrift article on Jesus’s final meal with the disciples in Mark. I post two photos – one of a young “Lasse,” when he was the assistant to professor Harald Riesenfeld, and the other from July 2018, when I visited him shortly after he had returned home from hospital. Peace be upon his memory.
